quote:I heard Chris Jones play BLACKBERRY BLOSSOM Clawhammer style and he could clearly pick every note in the melody correctly and quickly. I have been playing off and on for about 4 decades (I hate to admit it, 'cause I ain't that good) and I used to do both BG and Claw. I never good really good at either.....and now, I have learned a new exciting advanced and "New Age" banjo picking style......"2 FINGER BLUEGRASS".....I',m being jokey here.....It isnt that sophisticated but it sounds really good and melody notes are more distinct, but the smooth quality of a scale run is hard to achieve. It is really the forerunner of BG.
My point?...Clawhammer can be very difficult if done well....and in complexity can rivel 3 finger pickin'......and yes.....BG / Scruggs style is harder though.....Dont fret (ha) though.....If you are clean....you're cool.....and B. Fleck says,"Do what you do best and most comfortably, and you will own the audience."

No my post isn't a joke. I'm no expert so I may be way off, but that's why I am asking questions.
I'd like to hear folks thoughts, whether they think I'm mistaken and would like to give me their thoughts or from folks that think I'm onto something and give me their thoughts.
also let me make absolutely sure folks know that I am not insulting any particular style, or folks that prefer to focus on a certain style. as I said at the end of the day folks need to do what best suites them not what best suites me or anybody else.
and that's cool.
here I'm just sharing some passing thoughts I had and asking for the thoughts of others.
